Freddy Eastwood became only the third Southend player to score in seven successive games as they continued their surge towards promotion.
He scored from close range in the 44th minute to move alongside Billy Heck and Brett Angell in the record books.
Eastwood saw a fierce shot palmed out by keeper Matthew Gilkes after 55 minutes, allowing Mark Bentley to head
home the rebound.
And Eastwood then set up Wayne Gray for Southend's third five minutes later.
